Day 1: Oatmeal Stout, Screenshot & Rum Horchata

On December 1, 2019, we opened the packaging of our first beer to see what we could look forward to after dinner.  Beforehand, I was asked what if I found the first is an IPA… my response was, ‘Well, it is what it is and I’ll just have to deal with it.’

This morning we woke up to a good amount of snow, which accumulated to about a foot in places.  When going out to check the propane level, this is the view.  Pretty, huh?

The first beer for the both of us was great!  O’Fallon has an amazing smoked porter that is a favorite, and the oatmeal stout tasted great as well.  Good thing I grabbed a couple extra bottles while in St. Louis a couple weeks ago!

The Oatmeal Stout is under 6% ABV and has a great flavor.  This beer is definitely drinkable and is very smooth.  Not bitter at all.  Top notch oatmeal stout and is one of the better ones had in a long time.  This is from the Stout Advent Box.

The beer I had was called ‘Screeenshot’.  The bottle cap was pretty cool – however, when I read what it said underneath and it said something about an IPA, I thought that’s what it was going to be.  At 11% ABV, I figured if it did end up being an IPA, at least it would be sippable.. or at least that would be the hope.  It was nothing close to an IPA!  Definitely a sipper with the high alcohol content, but worth getting if you ever run across it.  It has a hazelnut flavor, so if you are a fan of those types of drinks, definitely grab one, or several.  This is one we will add to our list.

Last, but not least, is the rumchata shot.  To my better half, it tasted like cough syrup.  To me, it tasted like the butter rum drink a friend shared with me.  I am glad we shared the shot, since it was a bit more than expected!

Stay tuned for tomorrow’s unexpected types of beer that we will be trying!

Need help?  This app is what you need.  You receive 5 cents for every mile driven where your phone is on the locked screen.  You get rewarded for referrals, but can also accumulate $10,000 to receive $1,000 in your bank account.  I’m already over $200.
