Day 2 – Obsidian Stout & Winter Lager

On this snowy day of December 2nd, we opened our next beer which turned out to be a lager and a stout.  Due to wet, heavy snow and downed trees, we lost power for over 5 hours… so when we finally decided it was time to get our beer, a flashlight was needed and it was a good thing we had a fire going to keep us all warm!

My boyfriend’s beer, the Obsidian Stout by Deschutes Brewery in Bend, Oregon tasted pretty good.  The profile of this beer are notes of espresso and dark chocolate with a roasty finish.  If you are a stout fan, this is a good one to pick up.  We will, if we run across a 6 pack.  At 6.4% ABV, we give this one a thumbs up.

The beer I tried is a Samuel Adams Winter Lager, limited edition.  Even though it states that it is brewed with orange peel, cinnamon and ginger, I couldn’t tell at all.  It has a smooth taste and even though I wouldn’t pick up a 6 pack of this beer, it’s still at least worth a try.  This beer is at 5.6% ABV and 22 IBUs.
