On Monday, December 6th, our beer of the night is Velvet Rush, which is brewed by Founder’s Brewing out of Grand Rapids, Michigan. This is part of their barrel aged series and is definitely a favorite of ours.
If you are a fan of porters, stouts or even brown ales, this one is worth a try. This is an imperial brown ale brewed with coffee, chocolate, vanilla extract and milk sugar aged in bourbon barrels. At 11.1% ABV, this is a sipper but there is absolutely no bitterness – it is a very smooth drink to sip on.
I did hear from the Director of Public Relations and Communications from Founder’s Brewing who was kind enough to share how this beer was inspired by the popular White Russian Cocktail. The Co-Founder, Mike Stevens, challenged the brewing team to come up with a recipe inspired by the cocktail, so they went to work blending the best ingredients. This is how Velvet Rush was born – an Imperial Brown Ale with chocolate malts, milk sugar (for extra sweetness), vanilla and coffee.
“Borrowing elements from both high-end craft cocktails and moody jazz clubs, Velvet Rush takes the bourbon barrel-aged brown ale up an octave with free-flowing notes of coffee, chocolate and vanilla extract. Milk sugar aides in weaving together this complex tapestry of flavors to create a unique sipping experience.”
