On December 7, 2019, we unwrapped the beer of the night. A brown ale, imperial stout with coconut, and tequila was on the agenda for us tonight.
Before enjoying our beer though, we went on a showshoe hike, which our kittens joined for the fun…
Out of the stout advent box, the imperial stout with coconut was the beer of the night. At first, the coconut didn’t sound very good – however, the taste is very good. At 11.5% ABV, this is definitely a good sipper. If we ever saw this in a store, we would definitely buy more. The name is Fantastic Voyage with the grains of 2-Row, Crystal 60, Carafa-2, Flaked Oats. The adjunct is untoasted coconut. This is brewed and packaged by Perennial Artisan Ales out of St. Louis, MO.
Out of the standard box, I get the Coffee Bender, which is a brown ale with coffee added. This is brewed and canned by Surly Brewing Company out of Minneapolis and Brooklyn Center, MN. This one is 5.5% ABV and is OK. Not one that we would buy if we saw it in the store, but definitely has that coffee aroma and slight taste. It was somewhat bitter to me.
This shot advent box is starting to disappoint. Will most likely not do that next year unless we choose our own shots. At least when I would put together one for my sister, I’d do flavored vodka or some kind of flavored whiskey. Tonight’s was straight tequila and we had to pass on this one. If we were 10-15 years younger, we’d be more for taking a tequila shot. We aren’t as young as we used to be! This tequila is Alamo Blanco Tequila at 40% ABV.
