Day 10 – Cat Spit Stout/Darkstar/Fire Whiskey

It is so hard to believe we are already 10 days into the month of December… and the icicles have grown!

Both beers blindly picked tonight were Cat Spit Stout and Darkstar.  Kristen’s shot was Jack Daniel’s Fire whiskey.

The Cat Spit Stout is an oatmeal milk stout made by 2nd Shift Brewing, which doesn’t say where they are out of – however, on the front of the can it says it is Crider Brewing LLC out of St. Louis, Missouri.  On the back, it says “Coffeey, roasty, blah blah blah, it’s a stout, just drink it, it’s really good.”  At 7% ABV, it is smooth, but there isn’t much flavor.

The one I chose is Darkstar from Big Lake Brewing out of Holland, MI.  “Darkstar is a full-bodied stout brewed using both Kona and Sumatra coffee and then aged on cacao nibs.”  At 8% ABV, it is OK, but doesn’t have that wow factor as some other stouts I’ve tasted that are coffee stouts.

Kristen came out pretty good with her shot of the night!  It is one she has not tried before and says it is better than Fireball!  I would agree.  Back when I lived in St. Louis, Missouri, Ibotta had an offer where you would get $2 back on a bottle.  I found it at Sam’s Club for $9.99!  Everywhere else it was listed for close to $20.  Up here in Michigan it is closer to $25.

We ended up adding Jameson stout whiskey to both of our beers to make them taste better.
