Day 12: Black Chocolate Stout, Stand By, Irish Whiskey

On December 12, 2019, we ended up being under a winter storm warning… the cats love going out to try and catch the snowflakes… Below is a video of Milo doing his best to get them.  Here is their Facebook page – feel free to like and follow!

Now, to the beer and whiskey 🙂

Out of the stout advent box, is the Black Chocolate Stout, which is a legendary Russian imperial stout.  This is 10% ABV and is brewed by The Brooklyn Brewery out of Utica, NY.  This one definitely has a dark chocolate flavor to it… so if you are a dark chocolate fan, this is a good beer for you to try!  To me, it was a bit bitter (yes, I took a sip!).

Out of the standard advent box, this is the last hoppy beer I’ll be drinking.  This one is called Stand By, which is a Hoppy Pilsner brewed by Rockwell Beer Company out of St. Louis, MO.  This is 5.3% ABV.  It’s definitely a lot clearer than last night’s, but these hoppy beers give me a headache!  The can is cool though, with it saying ‘No Technical Difficulties Here’.

Now for the shot of the night… it is the Red Shank.  An Irish whiskey and is 40% ABV.  For Josh, this was very smooth.  To me… smelled like nail polish remover and had a terrible taste.  He took my share of this shot because there was no way I’d be drinking it. It just isn’t my night haha.

Looking for more ways to save money before and after the holidays?  Check out the list below!  Some links may be affiliate related, which earns me a bonus and possibly you as well!  Those that I know that go both ways, I’ll be sure to make note.

ReceiptPal – simply take pictures of your receipts and earn points for gift cards

Receipt Hog – simply take pictures of your receipts and earn points for an Amazon gift card, PayPal payout, or Visa Prepaid card payout.  You also can earn points to take surveys from the purchases made, and be rewarded spins when snapping at least one receipt every week!  Since 2014, I have redeemed $160 worth of payouts.

FetchRewards – the newest receipt scanning app!  This is for groceries only currently, but a great way to learn about new products and get rewarded by redeeming points for gift cards, which there are several to choose from!  Since 2017, I’ve earned $65 in Amazon gift cards.  You get 2,000 points when you scan your first receipt, and so do I. 🙂

ibotta – one of the first apps I used for rewards in 2013.  This is a favorite of mine since you learn about so many new products out there… if you are wanting to try that new seasoning, why not get money back as well?  Since 2013, I have earned $1,124.59.

Achievement– use a Fitbit or other type of tracker?  Check out Achievement.  It will count your steps and earn you points, which can be redeemed for an Amazon gift card.

GetUpside – you may have heard of this one on the radio, but if you have a car and get gas often, check this one out.  With living in the U.P. of Michigan, I didn’t think there would be a gas station that participated.  It does!  The money back fluctuates, but one day it was 20 cents per gallon it would give back.  Since starting to use in June 2019, I’ve earned $10.50 so far.  For signing up using my referral, you will get an extra 15 cents back per gallon.  I will get $7 after you send a successful receipt.  Their support team is also awesome if they are ever needed!

OnMyWay – please stop texting and driving, or looking at your phone. Need help?  This app is what you need.  You receive 5 cents for every mile driven where your phone is on the locked screen.  You get rewarded for referrals, but can also accumulate $10,000 to receive $1,000 in your bank account.  I’m already over $200.

Lucky Day – love scratch tickets?  Check out this app.  You have chances to win a monthly prize, daily, and get to scratch a lot of tickets off.  With those tokens received, you will be able to redeem those for items as well as gift cards.
