Day 23 – KBS Maple Mackinac Fudge

On Thursday, December 23rd our beer of the night is the highly acclaimed KBS, which is a flavored stout – this one is Maple Mackinac Fudge.  Founder’s Brewing out of Grand Rapids, MI is who brews this.

This imperial stout is with mackinac fudge coffee, maple syrup and chocolate aged in oak bourbon barrels.  As you can see, this is a very dark beer and is definitely one that would be a great sipper towards the end of the night, as it is about like a dessert.  At 11%, this is not bitter and you can definitely taste the chocolate.  If you are a fan of KBS, bourbon barrel aged beer, and/or even stouts, this is one to pick up if you happen to see it.  It is a favorite of ours.

From Founder’s Brewing:

“This was the second KBS variant that we ever bottled. Inspired by the original KBS, we wanted to focus on elevating the existing ingredients to create a new flavor profile without adding too many flavors that would take away from the original recipe. Using Mackinac Fudge flavored coffee from our friends at Ferris coffee, we were able to create and pay tribute to the one and only Mackinac Fudge.  Michigan didn’t invent old-fashioned fudge, but it was perfected here. We pay tribute to this time-honored tradition with KBS Maple Mackinac Fudge. By amplifying the rich chocolate notes of KBS using Mackinac Fudge coffee, then adding maple syrup and aging it in oak bourbon barrels, we’ve created a bold new take on our barrel-aged classic – one that could only have originated in Michigan.”
